Walks and hikes

There are many trails leaving from Vars which lead towards
the great Alpine passes (Vars, Izoard, Agnel, La Bonette, etc.),
Queyras Natural Regional Park and the valleys of Escreins and Le
Cristallin.

Bicycle touring and mountain biking

The mythical passes made famous by the Tour de France are
near Vars: Galibier, Lautaret, L’Arche, etc. Vars also has
Europe’s longest mountain bike downhill trail : 35 km.

Culture and Heritage

Cultural, gastronomic and folk traditions still influence
the art of living in Vars, a resort at the crossroads
of Alpine and Mediterranean influences.

Villages

Go for a stroll in the traditional hamlets of St Marcelin, St
Marie and St Catherine just outside Vars. Discover the museum of
traditional costumes in Queyras, honey factories, wood
carved toys and Serre Ponçon lake. Visit the stronghold of
Montdauphin, Embrun and its Gothic cathedral, Barcelonnette and
its "Mexican villas" and the panoramic view at Sauze.
