Mountain Area / Hiking

Available in each Village Club*, the Mountain Area is the meeting point for those who love nature. A place of contact and exchange, you will find all the information you need to enjoy the various mountain activities on offer.

Certified guides meet you there and share their knowledge and passion to improve your level, introduce you to the local flora and fauna and explore superb landscapes.

The mountains tamed!

Want to get away from it all and go exploring? With Les Villages Clubs du Soleil, you can set off alone, with your family and children or with your friends on beautiful walks at the heart of stunning nature. Freedom and pleasure are on the agenda. What are you waiting for? The great outdoors will do you good!

Nature walks
For over two hours, your guide will take you on a gentle walk, with or without your children, to get to know mountain flora, see animals in their natural habitat, discover preserved heritage, etc. A delight, open to all.

Unguided walks
If you want to set off by yourself or with friends: meet at the Mountain Area to get safety advice and all orientation information necessary for a peaceful walk.

Family walks
If you want to share your love of the mountains with your children: our guides organise special "family" trips specially designed for young and old alike. Half-day or full day trips, perfectly suited to children age 8 and up (distance, difference in altitude, interest, etc.)

Nordic walking
Combining outdoor fitness and active walking, Nordic walking is for everybody. Whether you’re looking for an adventure walk or want to improve your physical condition, discover the benefits of walking on all types of trails.

French Mountaineering School

Step by step, walkers get to know the mountains and improve their level. 1000 outings are organised each summer, supervised by professionals, so that everyone has fun, no matter what their level. Guided hikes

We give you everything you need to make your walk a safe and enjoyable one.
In some of our Village Clubs, our guides are certified "National Park Ambassadors": in other words, they have perfect knowledge of the site and are passionate about the environment and communicative.

The mountain guides at Les Villages Clubs du Soleil are certified ambassadors of the Les Ecrins National Park in Orcières and Montgenèvre and  ambassadors of the Vanoise National Park in Arc 1800. 

Characteristics:

• Walks
6 days a week
Levels : from easy (300m altitude) to medium (up to 500m altitude max)
Duration: 1/2 day
Locations : walks on recognised sites, accompanied by guides and using ordnance survey maps
Supervision : guides
Equipment hire: shoes, rucksacks

• Hikes
6 days a week
Levels : from easy (300m altitude) to very difficult (up to 1700m altitude max)
Duration: full day
Locations : walks on recognised sites, accompanied by guides and using ordnance survey maps
Supervision : certified mountain walking guides
Equipment hire: shoes, rucksacks

• Nature Trips
Supervision : certified mountain walking guides.
Levels : From easy to sporty, our guides are familiar with these routes>
Locations : Forest, woodland, small valleys, along the riverbanks... departing from each Village Club, on foot or by car depending on the excursion.
Duration: 2-hour nature trips 6 days a week.
Equipment included: walking shoes (size 36 to 46 inclusive), ski poles and rucksack.

All levels of the mountain

Whether you’re an expert or beginner, 4 hiking levels are offered by physical and technical criteria:

- Stroller – Green level: a half-day’s walking at 300m altitude on paths without technical challenges. From age 8 and up.

- Walker – Blue Level : a half-day’s walking at 300-500m altitude max on paths without any great technical challenges.

- Hiker – Red Level: A full day’s walking at 500-800m altitude max, sometimes going off the path to more technical areas (scree, grassy slopes).

- Experienced hiker – Black Level: A full day’s walking at 800-1000m altitude max, mostly off the path, or in more technical passages where it may be necessary to use your hands.

A handy practical guide

At the Mountain Area in your Village Club or by booking when you register, this new "Hiking Booklet" makes hiking easier and funds an association that is active in the area of environmental protection.

• You’ll learn how to follow markings and orient yourself in the mountains.
• Maps of the areas surrounding the sites and ideas for unmissable hikes are provided.
• You’ll learn a wealth of information about the local flora, fauna and geology.
• You’ll learn the 10 commandments of hiking and tips for protecting the environment.
